William Jackson Metzger, Jr.

July 02, 1925 - December 03, 2011

William Jackson Metzger, Jr.

William Bill Jackson Metzger, Jr., 86, of Savannah , GA passed away peacefully under hospice care on December 3, 2011.

Bill was born, raised and lived in Savannah his entire life. He was a proud veteran of the US Army and served in World War II. He attended and graduated from the Georgia Institute of Technology where he was a member of the Sigma Chi Fraternity. He married Betty Ann Mason of Atlanta and they remained married for 44 years until her death in August of 2000. He worked at Savannah Electric and Power Company for 40 plus years and retired as Manager of the Purchasing Department. He was a lifelong member of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church and served numerous terms on the Church Council and as President of Church Council. He was a member of many organizations: AMBUCS past president, the German Friendly Society, the German Heritage Society and the Georgia Salzburger Society.
Bill loved his family, his church, his Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, and his cigars…not necessarily in that order. Bill would say that his greatest source of pride were his two children, Susan and Marvin.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, William Jackson and Willie Belle Metzger and his beloved wife of 44 years, Betty Ann Metzger.

Bill is survived by his devoted daughter, Susan Elizabeth Metzger, his number one son, William Marvin Metzger and his daughter-in-law, Melissa Moye Metzger, his close cousins who spoiled him rotten growing up, Freda Dzielinski and Edwina Hanson, his adopted sister Nancy Tyson, and many other cousins.
